Cardiff ‘Foolish’ To Appeal JFH Ban?

Cardiff City immediately confirmed they would appeal the ban dished out to veteran striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink after his red card of Saturday.


Geraint Williams and Dave Jones were in agreement that the red card was undeserved but is there any sense in appealing the ban?


As things stand, Hasselbaink would miss the next three games, this includes a re-arranged fixture against West Brom meaning that Jimmy WOULD be available for the FA Cup semi-final against Barnsley.


However, Cardiff have little luck when it comes to appealing and the FAW panel the Welsh clubs must persuade is notoriously difficult to win over for fear of being accused of favouritism.


In fact, this decision could cost Cardiff City big time if the pnael ruled to extend the initial ban – suspending Jimmy for the all-important cup game. That would be extremely frustrating for City.


Of course, thats unlikely isnt it? The red card was harsh so the ban would never be extended – would it? For that, we must ask Middlesbrough, our opponents in the last FA Cup game. For that clash, ‘Boro were without striker Jeremie Aliadiere who was suspended for lashing out. It was barely more than a tap, after provocation but to Boro’s amazement – the ban was not quashed but extended!


Only time will tell, but perhaps Cardiff should have given Jimmy a nice break and rest to get in top shape for the Barnsley game – and hand Steve Thompson the chance to stake a claim with some gametime. City even have Warren Feeney back in contention as back-up after injury.
