A recent poll on this site invited readers to vote as to which of Cardiff’s misfiring stars they would drop to save Cardiff from fading into obscurity this season.

Recent losses to Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley saw Cardiff lose touch with the play-off pack and a lack of belief and committment was evident in some players.

The results of the poll revealed that Republic of Ireland midfielder Stephen McPhail would be the first to be sacrificed:

Michael Chopra 8%
Stephen McPhail 38%
Paul Parry 16%
Joe Ledley 11%
Kevin McNaughton 0%
A.N.Other 27%

A relatively high percentage (27%) would rather have seen a different player make way with Darren Purse, Thompson/Feeney or David Forde among the likely contenders.

McPhail was not dropped for the game with Stoke, but put in a distinctly average performance and lacked the cutting edge required to break down defences. See Full Player Ratings.

A central midfielder must be high on Cardiff’s list of priorities this summer with Scimeca being slightly injury-prone and Simon Walton returning to Charlton Athletic.
