Cardiff City striker Steve Thompson was handed a straight red card in the 1-0 away defeat to Bristol City. The Scotsman chased down a lost caused and clumsily launched himself at Robins’ keeper Adriano Basso.

It was doubtless a silly tackle, and left the Bluebirds facing 75 minutes a man down and without a striker in good scoring form.

A 3 match suspension followed for Thompson and an appeal by the club was rejected.

A poll on this Vital Cardiff City website asked readers for their thoughts on Thommo’s punishment:

Did Thommo Deserve A Straight Red ?

Yes. 60%
No. 31%
Didn’t See It. 8%
Too Hard To Tell. 1%

It seems the fans were of the same opinion as the referee and FAW panel.

Since then, we have beaten Sheffield United and got a creditable draw at Watford, outclassing the Hornets and deserving all three points.

Thompson remains on the transfer list, and has spoken out in the media of his frosty relationship with Dave Jones. He may well be on his way in January with a number of clubs said to be interested in the Championship and North of the border.
