Cheltenham Town midfielder Grant McCann is a loan target for Cardiff City. The deal is thought to include a first-option clause to buy in the January transfer window for a fee of around £250k.

McCann is a Northern Ireland international who cost Cheltenham a club record fee (£50k) joining from West Ham where he was a trainee. He had a previous loan spell with Cheltenham as well as Notts County and Livingston. The player would provide much needed cover for Cardiff in the central midfield position with only McPhail and Scimeca with experience there.

McCann has been ever present for Cheltenham this season and has scored 5 goals, inluding one against Swansea City. Cheltenham however are languishing in the relegation zone of League 1 and McCann is out of contract in the summer so could leave for nothing.

Burnley manager Steve Cotterill is also interesting in securing the midfielder’s signiture on a similar deal with a preliminary loan period.
