Cardiff Defender: New Contract Talks

Cardiff City defender Darren Purse HAS now opened talks over a new deal at Ninian Park.

The contract negotiations follow weeks of speculation regarding the player’s future at the club. While Purse has maintained his determination to succeed with Cardiff, many clubs have been linked – however club chairman Peter Ridsdale rubbished talk of a deal with Wigan Athletic.

Purse has stated numerous times he wants to stay, but was disappointed at not being offered a new deal. The committed defender approached his manager and was re-assured he was still part of Dave Jones’ plans.

Purse’s agent was coy about the clubs showing interest in Darren and it seems likely the player will stay unless a big money offer comes in:

‘Talks have begun over extending Darren`s deal, but we know there is a great deal of interest,’ said Richard Cody.

‘Darren`s enjoyed himself at Cardiff and that`s why talks have begun over a new deal.’

‘But, when you have big clubs looking, it`s something that needs to be considered. We`ll have to see what Dave Jones has to say.’

Purse has been instrumental for Cardiff over the past couple of seasons, and whilst he may not start every game next season – he adds experience, determination and commitment to the Bluebirds squad. His many assets are probably why so many clubs are sniffing round.
