Cardiff City lost again last night despite scoring two goals and it will be the manner of the goals that particularly riles Dave Jones after another dodgy performance at the back.

Darren Purse was re-called for the unfortunate Roger Johnson, but Purse looked rusty and off the pace. Bothroyd was finding space and turned Purse early to create a chance.

A number of sloppy passes invited pressure against City, and although Purse grew into the match – he will still be disappointed with the performance and his re-call had no effect on improving our form.

In the second half, Loovens was clearly struggling. He went down twice in pain, and despite Cardiff having Roger Johnson on the bench – no change was made and with Loovens hobbling – we conceded from a long ball over the top – what was Jones thinking? An unbelievable decision and one I just can’t understand.

Purse and Loovens formed one of the stingiest partnerships in the league last year and the defence simply must improve immediately – a clean sheet against Scunthorpe is key and we must win the game.
