Cardiff City’s Hudson Suffers Disciplinary Setback

Cardiff City captain Mark Hudson has been in excellent form once again during the opening 12 games of this season, and the former Charlton Athletic man remains an integral part of our side. He has been ever-present this season, forming strong partnerships with both Ben Turner and new boy Matthew Connolly. However, it seems likely the Bluebirds will need to opt for a new combination of Turner + Connolly in the not too distant future after Hudson`s disciplinary record deteriorated badly in recent weeks.

The first seven Championship games saw Hudson go without picking up a yellow card, a decent record for a centre-half. However, since then – he has collected an excessive 4 cautions in 5 games, including a booking for a rash sliding challenge toward the right touchline during the midweek win over Watford.

That means captain Hudson is just one booking away from collecting an automatic one match ban, and looks highly unlikely to make it to the end of the season without making his way into the referee`s notebook again?.He is now walking somewhat of a tightrope and hopefully it will not play on his miond in upcoming fixtures.

Any ban for Hudson would hopefully come soon, while we have all four other defenders fit and available. Turner and Connolly will surely be a perfectly good alternative, but we will miss Hudson`s leadership, commitment and all-round defensive contribution.

Vital Cardiff is currently running a poll (right side of this page) to see which defender fans would leave out of the starting XI. However, Hudson would not be expected to be many people`s pick having played consistently well over the past few seasons. He will likely slot straight back in after his (expected) automatic ban – but with Turner and Connolly more than capable in his absence, and Mackay keen to show each player much earn his place – there are no guarantees.

Is that really a setback? Surely the setback is when he gets banned……. slightly misleading headline!

Well he now faces the next 1,2,3, however many games ‘walking the tightrope’ as in the article – I’d say that is a setback for Hudson and us, especially if it plays on his mind
