Cardiff City are monitoring the progress of Craig Mackail-Smith, a highly rated striker currently playing for Peterborough United as they continue to struggle for options up-front.

Currently, Jay Bothroyd and Ross McCormack are the strikers for Cardiff City though Bothroyd has never been a prolific scorer while McCormack likes to come deep to receive possession and looks most effective on the right of a front three. Paul Parry is a converted winger providing cover while recent loan signing Eddie Johnson looks a long way off the standard required.

We were promised the striking situation would be addressed after being our downfall last season. It clearly hasn’t been. We will continue to struggle for goals and Eddie Johnson looks like a poor man’s Steve Thompson without the goal threat – seriously!

Mackail-Smith has been attracting attention from elsewhere and has impressed so far this season with 8 goals in just 11 appearances for ‘Boro. However, Peterborough are aiming for a promotion push and are under no financial pressure to sell. Cardiff City do have money available but previous experience suggests they will not be paying big money on any player.
