With a small squad to start with, Cardiff City were always going to struggle to cope with injuries while Dave Jones remains consistently reluctant to change formation or utilise fringe players like Darcy Blake. Here we take a look at the so-called ‘unselectables’ among the Cardiff City squad. Most are injured, some away but this team, although minus a goalkeeper, could probably survive in the Championship despite being crowbared into an unlikely 3-4-3 formation. The midfield division is particularly strong while you would also back this line-up to score plenty of goals!

The Defence

Tony Capaldi is an experienced Championship campaigner and takes the left position of the defensive line. Darcy Blake rates his best position as a centre-back – he rarely gets a look-in but has NEVER played for the first team at centre-half save for a substitutes appearance in the FAW cup 2 years ago. Alongside him is the unfortunate Darren Dennehy – the big defender left Everton in the summer to gain more first team opportunities – he has made none and does not even make the bench for the Bluebirds!

The Midfield

Midfield is an easy choice. Joe Ledley has a finger injury and takes left midfield, Peter Whittingham has ruptured ankle ligaments and lines up on the right. In central midfield we have long term injury victim Riccy Scimeca and forgotten man Willo Flood – on a second consecutive season long loan at Dundee United.

The Strikers

Up-front we have hamstrung pair Ross McCormack and Jay Bothroyd both picking up injuries against Wolves but hopefully nearing returns to the first team. Alongside them is Warren Feeney, the Northern Irishman is a striker who doesnt score goals – he is also out on loan with Dundee United.

The 10 outfield players likely to represent City on Saturday are: McNaughton, Kennedy, Purse, Johnson, Parry, McPhail, Rae, Comminges, Johnson, Chopra.

Although this team would probably be too strong, if all our unselctables were fit – it would be a decent game – especially the midfield battle! Your thoughts?!?

  • That midfield and strikers is good enough for top half.. What about Magennis for keeper? He was so bad – they turned him into a striker!

  • I didn’t know that about Magennis! lol. I rate the unselectable midfield higher. but without a keeper – might be a tough ask. I had totally forgot about Darren Dennehy until you bought him up. He must be *****ed – after leaving Everton for us to play football.. and isn’t picked. Jones must not rate him
