Cardiff City have swwoped to secure the signing of a back-up goalkeeper to replace Peter Enckelman and challenge Scottish International David Marshall for the Bluebirds no 1 jersey.

Former loan player Tom Heaton is the incoming man, and will officially join the Bluebirds when his current deal with Premiership giants Manchester United expires on 1st July. This is the second season in succession whereby Dave Jones has swooped early to sign a goalkeeper.

Heaton is well known to Cardiff City fans after featuring in a season long loan in our goalkeeper strewn season before last. Heaton, along with the likes of Stuart Taylor, Dimi Konstantopoulos and Peter Enckelman all shared the keeper gloves while none was able to make the shirt their own.

Heaton did not make the impression he’d have wanted at Cardiff City, but is young and did not look wholly out of place in the Championship. Additionally, he has experience with England U21s and was even offered a new deal to stay with Manchester United.
