Cardiff City have been successful in their appeal against Darren Purse’s straight red card after an FAW panel ruled that referee Lee Probert was wrong to send off the Bluebirds captain on 28 minutes.

Purse was dismissed following a late lunge on QPR winger Lee Cook. Cook himself and manager Gareth Ainsworth were both critical of the decision and felt a yellow card was sufficient.

Cardiff City boss Dave Jones launched an angry tirade at Probert following the game, and may yet face disciplinary action but Darren Purse will no longer have to sit out a three match ban and will start against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The ruling means that Hungarian Gabor Gyepes will have to wait again for a chance to establish himself in the Bluebirds side following a £200k move from Northampton Town.
