David Marshall 7

Kept out one good effort and a few long shots. Kicked well but needs better communication on crosses.

Paul Quinn 6

Not a natural left-back. Quinn looked uncomfortable and unbalanced on the left whilst he made 2 costly slips. Did his job but was lucky not to have been carded for a cynical tug while on the floor.

Adam Matthews 7
So calm and confident, Matthews looks a real find. Almost every touch was cheered but he became too complacent on one occasion allowing Elliot a sight of goal.

Anthony Gerrard 7

Strong, committed and assured. Gerrard performed well and kept a close watch on Maynard.

Mark Hudson 7

Growing in stature and put his body on the line when necessary, Hudson is powerful in the air and developing a good understanding with Gerrard. .

Joe Ledley 7
Typical energetic display from Ledley who had little possession first half but made good use when he did. Some neat turns to keep the ball showed his improved confidence and skill levels.

Gavin Rae 8

Obvious delight with the goal, and a cracking finish. Could have had two but for Chopra blocking a powerful drive – Rae makes such good runs in support and did his job in defence. Should now keep his place in the side.

Peter Whittingham 7

Some classy contributions and linked up well with Chops, he helped out in defence and found space at times. Needs a better final ball, but supported the attack well though often took one touch too many.

Chris Burke 9 M.O.M.

Burke popped up everywhere to destroy Bristol City. He helped out in defence before contributing to all three goals, his presence creates space for Chopra and the two combined magically. Will have been disappointed not to finish a flowing move first half.

Jay Bothroyd 7
Jay is so important to the team, and would have won more free-kicks if we weren`t 3 up. Stood tall against the giant McCombe and put in a good shift..

Michael Chopra 9
So dangerous at all times, Chops terrified the Wurzels defence and deserved his goal. His link-up play is much improved and he`s loving every minute of this season so far..

Kelvin Etuhu (on for Chopra 79`)
The new signing was effective in defence and closed down rapidly. Few chances in attack but stuck to his task well and looks a powerful runner.

Josh Magennis (on for Bothroyd 90`)

the overall team performance was the best performance i’ve seen in the last 5 years. the team was outstanding in all areas and chris burke outlined once again how important he is to the team, his running skill and ability to open up defences works brilliantly with chops running onto through balls. i think burke made on poor decision all game. the pass to thread chops through for the goal was outstanding as whitts had more space and was an easier ball!!! to get the guy on a free was an absoulte steal!! well done DJ
