A brief look at the individual contributions of all the major Cardiff City players over the course of the 2011/12 season. The ‘rating` as given is not purely based on performance but more the impact that player had compared to what we could realistically have expected at the start of the year and given their own standards and reputation.

3: Andrew Taylor

aylor arrived as the long awaited answer to Cardiff City`s problematic left-back position which he made his own after starting the first couple of games in midfield. Showing a defensive solidity, and a cultured left foot in attack – Taylor became a key member of the side though at times his defending was reminiscent of the hapless Lee Naylor as he backed off attackers and allowed the crosses too easily. I felt he always looked more comfortable with Craig Conway in front of him, and he is most adept in a 4-4-2 formation.

The final ball from Taylor`s left foot was mixed, sometimes deliciously dangerous and other times disappointingly wayward. He showed an impressive willingness to support the attack, and maintained a consistent presence in the City back four. However, despite Taylor`s solid first season – a good number of goals were conceded down our left and it is an area Malky Mackay will surely look at over the close season.

Andrew Taylor represents a very good free transfer signing, and with a more balanced midfield ahead of him, will surely remain an important player for us next season. I feel there is more to come from the talented left-back but he can look back with satisfaction after a solid first season.

Season`s Rating: 6.5/10
