Cardiff City defender Roger Johnson rose high at the far post to force home a late winner with a 90th minute goal against Southampton.

Cardiff had taken a first half lead when STEVE THOMPSON coolly slotted hom from 16 yards. However, City were guilty of sloppy defending just moments before half time when a cross from the Cardiff right was bundled home by a sliding David McGoldrick for the visitors.

The second half saw few chances but Johnson hit the post and Glenn Loovens headed over as we looked slightly the better side. Nathan Dyer’s poor control at the far post wasted a decent chance for Saints but it was Johnson who stole the headlines with his late late winner.

Southampton didn’t deserve to win but will be disappointed to leave with nothing. No problems for a near capacity Ninian Park as Cardiff City fans went home happy.

actually we did the same as last season, play under-our-potential and take the 3 points, i know its the first game, and we need more games to get into the sharpness, but, dave jones said in the pre-season we already look like we have season sharpness so. but we got the 3 points, so cant complain haa
