Cardiff City Set To Lose Burton To Portsmouth ?

Reports are suggesting that Cardiff City assistant manager Terry Burton is being lined up as Tony Adams’ number two after the former Arsenal stalwart took the reigns at Portsmouth.


Burton has been with Cardiff for a number of years after being poached from previous club Watford during the 2004-05 season thanks largely to strong links with Sam Hammam after Burton managed Wimbledon.


Burton is highly thought of within the game and numerous players have spoken of his influence on and off the pitch while he is also regarded as an astute tactician. Jones regularly turns to Burton during games though rarely have we made changes to employ different tactics. Instead, Burton takes a hands-on role during training and is crucial to the style of football we have adpted. In addition, it is Burton who oversees the pre-match warm-up and routines.


It would be a blow to lose Burton, although we would receive some compensation from Portsmouth. Should Burton take up the role, Cardiff may look for a replacement with the club currently far more enticing to potential employees with increased financial security, new stadium and good squad. However, another popular option would be the promotion of current reserve team boss Paul Wilkinson to the role.
