Cardiff City come face-to-face with a former stalwart, captain and fans favourite of Ninian Park when they face Graham Kavanagh today, currently on loan with Sheffield Wednesday.

Kavanagh was sold to stabilise the club’s spiralling debt in 2005, he was whisked away by helicopter to Wigan where he agreed a £500k move. However, he never really settled at Wigan and a move to Sunderland brought more fortune for the Irishman. Now he is deemed surplus to requirements by Roy Keane and has joined the Owls hoping to avoid relegation.

Kav told the SW Echo:

“There`s no doubt about it, it`s very much backs against the wall stuff at the moment for us.’

“Things are tough here, and while Cardiff are going reasonably well, I have to be totally selfish and say we are desperately in need of three points.’

“I will do everything I can to achieve that. We`re going to have to put in a big, big performance on Saturday if we want the win.”

Kavanagh’s experience and midfield presence will bring control and genuine ability to the Owls. His passing game can be outstanding while he also a threat with set-pieces and can aften be found lurking 25 yards out and ready to pounce.

Kavanagh has recently stated his ambition to work at Cardiff City again in the future with Kav currently taking his coaching badges, he feels a strong pull to Cardiff City and would love to return one day in a coach / managerial position.

The forced loss of Graham Kavanagh was the first of a number of disasters for us because of Sam’s over-enthusiastic spending .. no-one would be more welcome back at Ninian Park / our new stadium in whatever capacity.

He is a good player and it wouldn’t surprise me if he did score against you, as they usually do!!

would love to see kavs have a coaching role at ninian park, i think he has the mental toughness to make it, i firmly believe he can turn the young kids like rambo and blake into scimecas and rae’s but better. no-one blames kavs for leaving us when he did, cause he saved the club, and no-one would be more welcomed back than kavs.
