Cardiff City notched a 2-1 victory over Oxford United to continue pre-season and gained some valuable gametime for a number of first team players. Plenty of others were rested with niggles, with Mackay opting not to take any chances ahead of the new campaign.

Peter Whittingham hit the first with another well placed free-kick, while fellow midfielder Filip Kiss doubled the lead. Potter pulled a goal back for Oxford while a late late scare saw the home side hit the post with their own free-kick.

The game also saw new recruit Heidar Helguson make his first appearance since joining the Bluebirds. The next big friendly test comes on Saturday with a home tie against Newcastle United.
