Cardiff CIty will not be adding Bolton defender Andy O’Brien to the squad despite persistent rumours of a switch over the past week.

The Bluebirds desperately need more defensive options, with O’Brien a leading contender and known to have been made an offer. However, the 31 year old has now agreed terms with Championship rivals Leeds United, where he has been enjoying a loan spell of late.

Despite the interest from Cardiff City, O’Brien has opted to remain in the North and Leeds United came up with the appropriate fee – he will officially sign today and make his switch to the Whites permanent.

The Bluebirds remain keen on David Wheater, Jonathan Woodgate, Garry Kenneth, Glenn Loovens and probably a few more.
