Cardiff City Man Named In ‘Team Of Week’

Cardiff City’s hungarian defender Gabor Gyepes has been named in the Championship team of the week after helping the Bluebirds to a third successive cleeen sheet during the 2-0 victory over Hull city at the weekend.

Gyepes has been ever present at the heart of the Cardiff City defence, striking up a mean partnership with Mark Hudson. Many were surprised at Gyepes’ inclusion, at the expense of Anthony Gerrard after the Hungarian stopper was a regular on the Bluebirds bench last season. However, he won the call-up and Gerrard has now joined Hull City on a season long loan.

Gyepes enjoyed a good game against Hull City, and was a major factor in the Tigers’ meagre efforts on goal. He was strong, especially in the air and used his physicality to good effect. He will be hoping for another good performance tonight with the Bluebirds travelling to face Leicester City.

Currently Darcy Blake is the only cover at centre-back but former Middlesbrough man Chris Riggott is poised to sign.

The npower Championship team of the week in full:

David James (Bristol City), Nicky Hunt (Bristol City), Kyle Bartley (Sheffield United), Gabor Gyepes (Cardiff City), Ian Harte (Reading), Jimmy Kebe (Reading), Andy King (Leicester City), Nick Montgomery (Sheffield United), Keith Treacy (Preston North End), Chris Iwelumo (Burnley), Chris Martin (Norwich City).
