Cardiff City have lost the services of young midfielder Danny Drinkwater who has been recalled to parent club Manchester United. It is not clear whether the return was due to injury, lack of chances or that the Red Devils simply needed added midfield cover themselves.

Drinkwater started off in excellent form for the Bluebirds, before suffering a recurrance of the thigh problem that saw him miss 3 months of last season while on loan with Huddersfield Town.

Since then, the 20 year old has been unable to force his way into the side, and has looked short of form and fitness in his few appearances since returning from injury.

The Bluebirds did acquire the services of Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Aaron Ramsey last week, both of who offer cover for the midfield. Peter Whittingham and Seyi Olofinjana currently occupy the central roles, with Gavin Rae, Ramsey and the injured Steve McPhail looking to force their way in.

We wish Danny all the best for his future, it could have been a very different season but for that injury.
