Cardiff City FC has today issued a statement relating to reports in the media, more specifically the South Wales Echo, who have today printed that controversial former Chairman Sam Hammam is seeking a return to the club and is set for talks with new Malaysian backer TG.

Sam Hammam remains linked with the club through his shady connection with Langston, to whom we still owe significant amounts of money. Therefore it would be entirely natural that he meet with CCFC officials, especially given that a contract between the parties which more than halved our existing debt is currently unfulfilled and could see the £10m sum more than doubled if contractual obligations are not met.

The Echo understood that Sam is willing to return and supervise the footballing side of club business, a skill we do not have under the current management. The reports also suggest Sam would be willing to invest money in the club, something we and the Malaysians would obviously like. Perhaps most curiously, Peter Ridsdale is named as a mediator of the discussions.

Hammam remains a hugely controversial character within South Wales. Whilst his legacy is evident with the existence of the academy, and the stadium dream now realised – his dodgy dealings put us in the financial disaster zone we have occupied long after his departure.

Cardiff City have issued a statement dismissing the SW Echo reports and state that there are no plans to see Hammam return in any capacity to the club. The statement also reads that they were not contacted prior to the reports – a curious situation and one that backs-up many people’s opinions that this is more ‘sensationalist’ journalism from the Echo during the close season when news is scarce and they are struggling to fill column inches.

Purely as an academic exercise at this stage, would you welcome Sam back to Cardiff City ? – Vote now in the poll.
