Cardiff City Grab Great Victory At Ipswich

Cardiff City grabbed all three points at Portman Road this afternoon courtesy of a dazzling first half performance and goals from Jay Bothroyd and Gabor Gyepes.


Signs of a good contest appeared from the off with both teams playing with a high tempo and looking to pass the ball. Bothroyd and Chopra each looked lively and City took the lead in the ninth minute when Routledge cleverly pulled back and Bothroyd applied the finish from 10 yards.


Chopra also caused problems and went clear through on goal, he rounded Ipswich keeper Richard Wright only to see his effort miraculously cleared by an outstanding piece of defending by Town captain MacAuley.


Cardiff City extended the lead shortly afterwards when a low Parry free-kick was hit home by Gabor Gyepes – the Hungarian scoring his first Bluebirds goal.


Wright did brilliantly to save from Bothroyd after another great Parry cross but it was by no means one way traffic and Ipseich caused their own problems. Counago was a danger but it was Stead’s header and a long range Thatcher piledriver that worried us the most.


However, just before the break, much of the hard work was undone when Jon Stead steamed in to meet a Wlaters cross and halve the defecit. Chopra was off injured by this point and it was an unfortunate time to concede.


After all the attacking talent on show in the first half, more goals were expected – they never came as the City defence stood tall with Enckelman alert on several occasions. We didn’t sit back and PArry and Routledge continued to attack along with the exceptional Bothroyd.


It was Routledge who changed the course of the game for Cardiff City when he twice skipped past Ben Thatcher – the former Wales International was a clear candidate for a red card from the off and after two poor challenges in 2 minutes – he was unsuprisingly and deservingly dismissed. Cue a barrage off boos for Routledge from the Tractor Boys support but it was more likely aimed at their team who although they played well, were lacking a killer instrinct and defended sloppily at times.


Cardiff City’s defence stood still, and the offside trap served us well as Ipswich toiled after an equaliser – it never came and Cardiff City won an excellent three points to continue a run of impressive form.
