E.ON challenges fans to roar at Wembley final
Welsh band The Automatic urge Cardiff City fans to turn up the volume
As excitement builds ahead of this weekend`s final of The FA Cup sponsored by E.ON, Cardiff City and Portsmouth fans are preparing to battle it out to be crowned the loudest crowd ever, and Cardiff based band The Automatic are pushing fans of The Bluebirds to be the noisiest.
FA Cup sponsor E.ON is getting ready to measure both sets of fans vocal support using state of the art sound monitoring equipment and has challenged Portsmouth and Cardiff City fans to beat the record set by Liverpool fans during their Carling Cup final clash with Chelsea in 2005.
Portsmouth were crowned the loudest set of fans during the semi finals stages with a high of 116.5 decibels, closely followed by Cardiff City fans with 114.9 decibels. Both teams are going to have to dig deep to beat Liverpool`s staggering record of 130.7 decibels!
Rob Hawkins, The Automatic`s lead vocalist challenged Cardiff City`s supporters:
“We call on each and every Cardiff fan to make as much noise as possible. Not only must we be louder than Portsmouth but we want to shatter Liverpool`s record!”
E.ON, one of the UK`S leading energy companies, will be recording the volume of each team`s fans throughout the duration of the final – measuring the roars that greet a goal, the groans that accompany a near miss and even the deathly silence that follows an opposition strike. The aim is to find out which fans really expend the most energy on their team.
Nick Sandham, Retail PR Manager at E.ON, said:
“We all know that fans play an important role in any big match but we want to know who does the most in this year`s final. Not only is it a chance for fans to lay claim to the 12th man status, but also a chance to make history.”

sorry, i don’t expect it to be a good game (we are always awful when im there!) – i dont expect an amazing come back from either side, i dont expect an 11 goal thriller – and however good we may be – the aprehension of being in our first cup final for god knows how long, and the fact it will be a dire game, will mean that our noise levels wont be quite so high. even though (as we prooved earlier) 500 of our fans can outsing all of anfield 😉 )
