Thirty Cardiff City supporters were arrested in Sheffield over the weekend prior to the Bluebirds’ 1-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

A statement from South Yorkshire Police read:

‘Thirty men have been arrested for public order offences before the Sheffield Wednesday v Cardiff City football match on Saturday 23rd February 2008.’

‘The men, all believed to be Cardiff City supporters, were arrested following an incident in Sheffield city centre about an hour before the match started.’

‘There was no reported disorder at the Hillsborough Stadium.’

Sixteen of the men were charged with public order offences, while 10 were released without charge. This is more neagative and unhelpful publicity for the club. I witnessed no trouble at all on the weekend but the incident will only worsen public perception and increase the number of bubble trips and restrictions placed on our fans.

Cardiff City’s away support is fantastic. Incidents like these are rare events and most likely to be caused by over-zealousness or by those who are not true fans of the club.

If it’s more negative puclicity for the club then why report on the website?

im not one of these fans who causes trouble in football, but i dunno how you can say they are not true supporters cause they are, they are just soo passionate. everyone said after the southamption incedent 2 years ago where cardiff fans where arrested over fighting with southampton fans, every said they werent reall fans. if they where there an seen what really happend then you got the right to judge

Hopefully, the times where CCFC was used as an excuse to go and cause trouble, with no regard for the football, are over. Those people were/are not fans and merely used the club as an reason to travel and excuse for aggro.

have you met any, some times they can be provoked way to far, no-one really knows what went on execpt for the ones who where arrested. you say they only use the club, this is the first time fans have been arrested for a while, that shows they aint using the club, dont you think if they wanted to use a club they would of chose swansea cause they get to meet the likes of millwall and leeds and the oryents.

I have met some, I hope these aren’t more. Our club has enough to deal with at the moment. I should say, I don’t know what happened here – I was at the ground and saw no trouble.

Doesn’t sound like organised violence, just some boozed up Taffy’s who went a bit too far – all done and dealt with.

If those Eejits are CCFC FANS then what were they doing in the City centre so close to kick-off……? Seems a long way to travel if you’re not going to the game?
