Cardiff City have already rejected a £1.75m bid from newly relegated club Burnley for goalscoring winger Peter Whittingham, and the Clarets are now set to push harder with another bid.

Burnely are armed with their parachute payments after dropping out of the Premiership and have seen strong interest in midfielder Andy Driver rejected. They have also lost veteran striker Robbie Blake and are looking to add to their squad and justify their billing as favourites for promotion.

Cardiff City have to listen to offers for any player, but are now in a position where we do not have to sell on the cheap as happened with the likes of Loovens, Johnson, Ramsey etc in the recent past. The renewed bid from Burnely is thought to be close to the £2m mark with a further payment of £200k should the Clarets acheive promotion. However, they are reluctant to pay the intitial £2m in full and would prefer to stagger the payments making the deal far less attractive for City.

The club would ideally like £3m for Peter Whittingham, with the vast majority paid up-front. However, ongoing cashflow problems and mortgaged future revenue mean we have to take Burnley’s interest seriously and a bid of around £2.5m may be enough to tempt the Bluebirds.

Whilst Whittingham had a remarkable season last year, 2008/09 was deeply disappointing and with only a year remaining on his current deal, a move may well be on for Whitts, with Nottingham Forest and Burnley (where he previously spent a loan spell) both showing strong interest.

oh and now the FA have imposed a transfer embargo(AGAIN) so there will be in my opinion no new blood before end of transfer window as we don’t have the cash without a cash injection from somewhere to A) pay the 1.5m owed to sunderland………………….B) pay the 1.4m owed to HMRC………………………..and C) pay the reported 500k we still owe for hudson more happy times ahead guys!!!
