Cardiff City will not face disciplinary action from the FAW following the incident during the South Wales derby where referee Mike Dean was struck by a coin and left needing treatment for a cut to hit head.

In a letter to Cardiff City FC, the FAW stated:

‘After taking all matters into consideration, the FA of Wales has determined formal action against Cardiff City on this occasion would not be warranted.’

The panel found that CCFC was not to be held accountable and took every reasonable step to control the fans. The decision is no doubt due to the immediate action taken by the club in condemning the attack, banning the fan for life and the great lengths taken by the club in assisting the police to identify and prosecute any offenders.

Make no mistake, this is not getting away without punishment – the negative publicity will have hurt the club and the lack of sanctions is urely akin to a suspended sentence. Should any further discretions take place, we will be punished doubly.

Its a sad and cowardly act to throw anything at players/officials and the public backlash accross the country and within the Cardiff City online community was united and ferocious. Any fan caught up in the moment should think very hard about any such behaviour – hopefully we can draw a line under this now and look forward to the new season, concentrating on new arrivals, new stadium and a new campaign.
