Cardiff City are free to register new players after the transfer embargo imposed by the football league was lifted.

Money was paid yesterday to Charlton, Sunderland and the HMRC and the Bluebirds were convinced it was sufficient to see the embargo taken away.

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones told BBC Sport today:

‘The embargo is off.’

‘That has all been sorted so we are now able to register players.’

Danny Drinkwater, Jason Koumas and Tom Heaton can all now be registered, while there are strong indications that two more signings are imminent, with a third possible next week.

This is great news for the Bluebirds ahead of the Sheff Utd game – however, Gethin Jenkins has warned we may be dipping in and out of embargo as the club continue to sort through the financial mess.

He told BBC Sport Wales:

‘There are more challenges to come but we’ll face up to them and try to keep the club out of an embargo so we can continue to operate and go forward.’

‘I can’t rule out another embargo, there is certainly a possibility we can go back in and out of it.’
