Cardiff City Defensive Blunders as Wolves Win

Cardiff City were dealt a sucker blow by table-topping Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday but could only blame themselves after gifting the leaders 2 soft goals inside 10 minutes.


Roger Johnson completely mistimed a header and Chris Iwelumo could hardly believe his luck as a hopeful long ball saw him clear on goal to fire across Heaton. Frustration became disbelief just minutes later when the static defence called in vain for offside allowing Ebanks-Blake to score in almost exactly the same way.


The stunned crowd were given hope as Whittingham grew into the game and looked a threat and McCormack extended his run of good form by collecting a cross and firing home from 12 yards – he was afforded too much space but did superbly to fire home.


Cardiff were badly hampered by an injury to Jay Bothroyd and the Parry/McCormack partenrship never really clicked. The second half saw a few more chances but we were relatively easily contained by Wolves. McCormack went through on goal but couldn’t quite lift the ball over Ikeme and hurt himself in the process – Eddie Johnson the replacement.


To be fair to Johnson, he did really well in the air – but there was no end product. Johnson had one effort on goal saved by Ikeme at the death while Andy Keogh should have scored after outpacing Comminges only to fire wide.


You just cant gift goals against the likes of Wolves and we gave ourselves too much to do. More worrying than the defeat is the loss of Bothroyd and McCormack to hamstring injuries – a loan player may be coming in as cover.
