Cardiff City have officially confirmed that Icelandic striker Heidar Helguson has joined from Queens Park Rangers. The Bluebirds have paid a fee for the ex-Watford man, but the 34 year old presumably did not cost too much and Mackay adds the experience and strength of Helguson to the likes of Mason, Velikonja and Earnshaw in the City attack.

Helguson joins on a one year deal and will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s trip to face Oxford Utd in the next pre-season friendly. He enjoyed a very good season last time out for Rangers and will look to continue that form in the Championship with his new club.

As is becoming more usual for City, news of the deal only broke yesterday and the medical and contracts were wrapped up the next day. Excellent work Malky & team.
