Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale has admitted our strong interest in MLS striker Kenny Cooper as our search for a ‘big target man’ continues.
As things stand – we have had an offer, thought to be between £1m-£2m accepted by the MLS league, who hold the player’s registration. Scandinavian club Helsingborg are also interested but City appear to be leading the chase at the moment.
Kenny Cooper is 23 and 6’3′ tall. He is a former Manchester United reserve and currently plays for FC Dallas.
Cooper is expected for talks in South Wales this week, and hopefully will be impressed by the new facilities, stadium and ambition. The search has gone on long enough and we could really benefit from having our striker train with the squad for as long as possible before the season starts.
One added bonus is that Cooper is currently mid-season in USA, and is already match fit. Unlike Fowler and Hasselbaink last season, he wouldn’t require months to become ‘match fit’ and could play straight away depite missing the pre-season tour.
