Cardiff City are showing strong interest in bringing former Wolverhampton Wanderers left-back Lee Naylor to the CCS on a free transfer after he left previous club Celtic by mutual consent.

The 30 year old is vastly experienced at Championship level, having spent 8 seasons with Wolves – where he worked with Dave Jones and, ironically, the man he would compete with for the left-back position with Mark Kennedy having converted into an effective left-back.

Naylor impressed at Celtic but has been short of first team opportunities of late. His deal was ended recently, and he is expecting to move back into the Championship with Nottingham Forest also showing interest.

Currently, Cardiff City have Mark Kennedy and Kevin McNaughton who can operate at left back after the departure of Tony Capaldi. McNaughton, Quinn, Adam Matthews and Darcy Blake can all fill the right back position although Matthews is likely to attract interest himself over the coming weeks.

Former England U21s cap Naylor offers a more attacking option from full-back than Kennedy, while he is also a useful left-footed option for free-kicks – though Peter Whittingham may have something to say about that !
