Cardiff City’s inspirational captain Darren Purse has ended speculation regarding his Bluebirds’ future by signing an extension to his current contract.

Purse asked for a new deal and terms were agreed between club and player some time ago. Rumoured interest from Wigan Athletic never materialised into a solid enquiry and Purse has now committed his future to Cardiff City.

Purse told BBC Sport:

‘I have loved playing for Cardiff, I’m glad everything has been sorted out and I’m looking forward to the new campaign as we aim to improve on last season.’

Purse, Loovens and Roger Johnson will make up the centre-back unit for Cardiff City which should prove a strong department with good competition for places. Purse also adds some much needed experience to the squad and at 30 is coming into his prime as a defender.
