It was always going to happen…. ‘Cardiff City’s star midfielder Peter Whittingham is being strongly linked with a move to the Premiership….’

It wouldn’t be the summer transfer window without rumours of our top players leaving, and Peter Whittingham has certainly qualified as one of our top performers over the past few seasons – regularly being tipped for a trasnfer away.

The latest interest is likely genuine, with West Brom cited in the media as preparing a bid for the creative midfielder. A move back to the Midlans might be tempting for the Coventry born former Aston Villa man – and he certainly deserves a chance to play in the Premiership having significantly improved since making his debut as a young winger with a dangerous left foot. Nowadays, Whittingham contributes all over the pitch, and has established himself as one of the most talenmted and creative midfielders outisde the Premiership.

Malky has made it clear that Whittingham is integral to his plans. Under previous regimes, a £3m bid would surely have been considered, and a £5m would have been accepted for sure. Under the new Malaysian ‘ownership’, we have been promised there is no need to sell – I guess we will see….
