Cardiff City target Ched Evans has signed a new contract with Manchester City dealing a blow to the numerous clubs interested in his signature. With new boss Mark Hughes expected to oversee a clearout, Evans became hot property after impressive loan and International form.
However, Hughes does see a future for the youngster at Eastlands and has moved to tie him into a long term contract meaning a permanent switch to Cardiff City looks out of the question.
Dave Jones had been biding his time, keen on either a loan or permanent deal for the Welshman who scored two goals at Ninian Park on loan from Norwich City – one a simply sublime strike.
Now, a loan deal looks the only possibility but Evans is expecting to remain with City, he told their official site:
‘It’s important to be playing first team football and hopefully I can do that here.’
‘With the new manager here now, I think I’ll get a chance to impress. I went to Germany and now I’m away with the squad in the Faroe Isles so that gives me the confidence that he’ll give youth a chance.’
Cardiff City and Norwich City were both extremely interested in a season-long loan deal while several other clubs were keeping an interest. Evans’ comments give the clearest indication yet he will not be moving out on loan.
