Cardiff City have made a bid for highly rated Blackpool winger Matt Phillips. City are keen to bolster their attacking midfield options, and have made signing a winger the number one priority for this January. Interest in Brighton’s Craig Noone was rejected by the Seasiders and Mackay has now switched targets.

Phillips is a real prospect, offering pace and trickery on the flank. he has represented England at various youth levels and has been dangerous for Blackpool since moving from Wycombe Wanderers in a deal worth £700k.

Phillips also offers a goalscoring threat and has four goals this season despite having rarely started for the Tangerines. Blackpool boss Ian Holloway is a big fan of the youngster, and immediately rejected the Bluebirds’ initial bid.
