Cardiff City have been turned down after an approach to Rangers for Scottish striker Kris Boyd.

Boyd was a former target for the Bluebirds and came close to signing in South Wales having agreed terms and passed a medical before bailing out and joining Rangers instead.

He has been prolific at Rangers and boast an excellent scoring record. His power and finishing have seen him impress many and this was an ambitious attempt from Jones and Ridsdale.

the bid proves City are serious about spending the Aaron Ramsey cash on players, and are finally ready to splash out on a proven centre forward.

A statement on Rangers Official Site read:

‘In light of media reports, Rangers Football Club can confirm we received an official offer for Kris Boyd which was rejected.’

The offer is thought to be around £2.5m and was turned down, but Rangers have already signed Lafferty from Burnely and Miller from Derby County so could be tempted into a deal.

At last real evidence that Peter and Dave are serious about mounting a promotion challenge next season!

Maybe. Unless they are putting in a bid they KNOW will be rejected before we ‘opt’ for a cheaper player and spend the rest on ‘wages’. Wouldn’t put it past us….

.. now that’s not the way to approach the new season, Aderyn las – keep the faith! Well, yes, I know – a bit difficult given what we’ve been through .. at least we’ve still got Ledley and seem to be prepared to hang on to key players like Johnson, (next season’s team captain, please!) McNaughton, and Loovens .. when you think of those we [had to?] let go from Kav to Gabbs, from Ginge to Earnie .. and it looks as if we’ve wiggled our way out of huge wage commitments to Jimmie and Robbie [but I hope he’s still aorund to wear the No.8 shirt] – I agree Evans and Boyd up front would be ideal. Spend the money, Peter!

If you can get a striker of his quality for £2.5 million that would be a great bit of business.
