Sky Sports are reporting that Cardiff City have agreed a fee with West Ham for the transfer of explosive striker Nicky Maynard. The former Bristol City player only joined the Hammers in January, but despite helping them to promotion he was not a a regular first choice and finds himself well down the Premiership pecking order.

City have a plethora of options with Helguson, Bellamy, Earnshaw, Velikonja, Mason and Gestede all on the books – but Maynard offers more pace – a characteristic lacking so far in our three league outings.

We have a little overm 24 hours to complete the deal before tomorrow’s deadline, but any capture of Maynard would be a further statement of intent. A very good striker, and one who would surely prove a good buy for a Championship side.

Fee agreed only, Maynard previously was lukewarm on a move to Cardiff City but is finding his opportunities limited and may yet depart Upton Park bnefore tomorrow. There will be other competition for his signature, but for now – the Bluebirds lead the chase.
