Cardiff City are working hard behind the scenes in an attempt to lure long-time transfer target Chedwyn Evans from under the noses of Glasgow Celtic – who are reportedly close to a deal for the Welshman.

Evans is highly rated, but looks set to be frozen out at current club Manchester City with their new wealth and fellow young striker Daniel Sturridge emerging for the Citizens.

Evans spent time on loan at Norwich City last season, scoring a memorable goal against Cardiff City at Ninian Park. He was courted by the Bluebirds at the start of the season, but boss Mark Hughes wanted him to remain at Eastlands.

With Evans becoming available, Celtic looked to have struck a deal for the talented frontman but Dave Jones and Peter Ridsdale have not given up and City are working hard to come up with a uitable package to lure Evans to South Wales.

A front three of Bothroyd, McCormack and Evans is sure to impress Cardiff City fans and worry Championship defences.

this wouls be a good signing for us, is there any truth in the rumour we are signing Matt Derbyshire from blackburn?? now that to would be good.

Dave Jones mentioned Derbyshire in his press conference as someone ‘out of our reach’ – could be a decoy but he said he’d read it as speculation and wasnt realistic.

thios would be a quality signing for us. we need another striker badly as we have no adequate cover.

Well, if he’s got to choose between you and Celtic, he has to come to Cardiff. Better Club all round, with much better fans. No, this is not a sarcastic comment – he’ll do better in the long term with you. Celtic are imploding big time.

well i hope he comes but its all just speculation

I’m a Mancity fan and I’d be personally quite gutted if we sold Ched. He’s not the finished article, but you’d be overjoyed if he signed for you, top prospect.
