Cardiff City and Enckelman: A Good Match

Cardiff City have had problems assigning the number 1 shirt this season with Middlesbrough loan ‘keeper Ross Turnbull failing to impress early on, before Michael Oakes was unable to convince Dave Jones.

Kasper Schmeichel looked an excellent prospect but decided to return to Manchester City to fight for a first team place there.

After considering a number of options, Cardiff City decided to call on Peter Enckelman of Blackburn Rovers. A relatively old, but inexperienced goalkeeper having spent much of his career on the bench.

However, the former Aston Villa man has done well for the Bluebirds, collecting crosses effectively and looking assured with his handling. The defence has been in mean form (save for a crazy period of 9 shipped goals in three games!).

Enckelman is out of contract in the summer with Blackburn and will be free to leave. He has stated his desire to wait until the summer before deciding his future but will welcome an offer from Cardiff City at that time. Dave Jones also looks likely to go for the player, we know he’ll fit in well and would cost nothing – a perfect signing for us.

Enckelman will probably replace Michael Oakes, with a young Premiership loan player competing for the number one jersey next season.
