Cardiff City boss Dave Jones has confirmed that a deal has been agreed for experienced defender Chris Riggott to join the Bluebirds. He will provide quality cover and competition for Hudson and Gyepes in central defence.

The Bluebirds had looked light in that department since Anthony Gerrard was loaned out to Hill City. However, talks had already taken place with Riggott and a deal could be done since he was a free agent and not subject to the transfer window.

Riggott had been training with Cardiff CIty for the past three weeks and is looking to get his career back on track after a series of injuries which plagued his time at Middlesborough. He was offered a new deal at Teeside, while hometown club Derby County were also interested.

Jones told BBC Sport:

We’ve agreed contracts with Chris and his agent. It’s now putting him through a rigorous medical.’

‘Don’t forget, he’s missed a lot of pre-season like a lot of our players that we’ve brought in late.’

Hopefully, Riggott will show no ill effects from his injuries and will come through his fitness test to play a big part for the Bluebirds this season.
