Cardiff City 1-2 Birmingham City: Disappointing

Cardiff City were again toothless and were made to look ineffective by an organised and calm Birmingham outfit. Cardiff started brightly and Paul Parry had a free header only to head tamely at Taylor.

This miss proved costly as Brum winger Quincy fed the ball through a static and bemused Bluebirds defence, McFadden slotting home for an early opener.

Despite enjoying more possession, Cardiff failed to capitalise though were unlucky on numerous occasions as luck deseted them. McCormack got behind the defence twice, but was un-supported as he was pushed wide while Whittingham’s close range effort was superbly blocked. Roger Johnson headed a corner powerfully only for the outstanding Lee carsley to clear off the line.

However, City went into the break 2-0 down after Arsenal loanee Quincy cut inside before volleying home an excellent shot from 20 yards.

After the break, Birmingham consolidated and seemed relaxed and content to break with speed. Cardiff forced a number of corners but picked out Jaidi all game and looked unable to create chances.

The introduction of Marcus Bent created a fiery atmosphere and with just 5 minutes to go, Ross McCormack gave the Bluebirds hope after tricking his way inside to unleash a fine left footed effort across Taylor.

However, City couldn’t find an equaliser and lose their unbeaten league record. The late goal was a huge bonus, and meant the game wasnt a huge disaster but we have plenty of problems. The midfield is definitely not functioning while in attack we are sluggish and missing the killer instinct.

true the strikers movement is poor and we look flat.
midfield was as you say all over the shop and collpased on more than one occasion.
bothroyd doesn’t move enough and mccormack looked much more effective for the last 10 mintues playin in a right wing role.
perhaps jones could use that idea for the next game??

absolutly disagree, all last season, we moaned our strikers dont move enough, bothroyd likes to move out wide, give support to our wingers, which is what we need, mccormack was lively all game, just we still lack that extra bit, midfield wasnt strong enough and i think rae had a another disapointing game, maybe drop him, a load of bad balls from commingues,,,,,,eddie johnson, i dont care if he is lacking games, he doesnt seem asif he wants to play them, overall a average performance, still lacking that cutting edge upfront

..forwards are supposed to score goals – and they’re usually scored from within the box .. often picking up defence splitting passes .. now we do a lot of passing and it usually ends up going backwards until the 6th pass is either totally misplaced or lofted up into the box where it could have gone in the beginning .. our two forwards spend a lot of time scampering out to the wings and then, of course, there’s no-one in the middle to pick up their passes and when, as today, Parry and Rae are completely ineffective it all falls apart with a few pretty passes now and then but never really worrying defenders with constant forward pressure .. McCormack scored today because he got fed up with piddling about with pretty passing; he saw the goal so he belted the ball at it .. now could ALL the forwards + both ‘wingers’ + both centre midfield palyers spend a whole week doing nothing except practise shooting the bloody ball hard at goal please?

i agree we dont shoot, we always try to walk the ball into the back of the net, thats why we will never been good enough to get into promotion place, gavin rae always seems to shoot from outside the area, and where does it go, no one nows cause he cant hit the target, now we neeed to practice shooting, and we need the likes of bothroyd on the right goin wide, cause ledley likes to go centre, and we have no1 wide then, i think mcphail is a definant for midfield, people say hes not good enough and is having bad games, no, hes not having bad games, he plays very well, its just when he creates something no1 can seem to finish it, so we all point the finger

i agree and disaggree with some of your points. as for bothroyd goin wide i think he didn’t!!
he stayed in the box waitin for a looping ball to head in the net.
A he isn’t great at leaping and heading and B we never lokked like beating jaidi in the air with looping balls or maik taylor for that matter.
ball has to go hard across the box just like when purse crossed hard and about 5 foot high and mccormack hit the side nettin.
best ball into the box all day that was and we looked like we could score from doin that as your forwards are there to attack the ball.
can’t do that with loopin balls into the box.
