With regular skipper Darren Purse, and his deputy Riccy Scimeca both out injured, who would be the captain for Cardiff City’s upcoming fixtures – beginning with tonight’s visit of Barnsley.

A recent poll on the VitalCardiff website and forum revealed the opinions of Cardiff City fans…

Roger Johnson emerged as the fans’ favourite to step in. Although not established in Cardiff’s team, he is guaranteed to play in Purse’s absence and has captaincy experience having skippered former club Wycombe. Johnson polled 37% of the vote.

Stephen McPhail was the closest contender for the role polling 27%. The Irishman is more experienced than most in the squad and would relish the chance to face former club Barnsley as captain. His influence on the game is large from midfield and he pulls the strings in most Cardiff moves.

Glenn Loovens (18%) and Michael Chopra (12%) were other options while Steve Thompson was an unpopular choice with just 6%.

Discussion amongst fans on the board brought Neil Alexander and Paul Parry as possible alternatives but we will all have to wait until tonight to find out who Dave Jones agrees with.
