Darren Purse is being linked with January moves to either Wigan or Watford in the Premiership. Purse is aware of the speculation but has moved to distance himself from the rumours and re-affirm his committment to Cardiff City.

Purse is a no nonsense defender who has repeatedly put his body on the line for Cardiff, despite some sections of support questioning his inclusion ahead of Glenn Loovens and Roger Johnson. Purse has been inspirational as a captain and his experience has been especially evident when helping the likes of Kerrea Gilbert and Chris Gunter.

Despite the interest, Purse insists he is settled in South Wales and has no plans to move:

Purse told the South Wales Echo:

‘I love it at Cardiff, I’m enjoying my football, so why would I want to move on?’

‘I’m really settled at Cardiff and I’m trying to sort out a couple of extra years on my contract at the moment.’

‘Hopefully that will come about, but we’ll see what happens. What could be sweeter than captaining a club and taking them into the Premiership?’

Cardiff are strongest at centre-back and have 3 quality players to choose from, Dave Jones may be tempted to cash in on Purse in order to bolster other areas of the squad but having spent his entire transfer kitty on bringing Purse to the club (£750k in July 2005), Jones obviously feels Purse to be a key player and effective captain.
