Manager Russell Slade’s plans for 2015-16 are now starting to take shape with the announcement of the retained list for the coming year.
Kevin McNaughton, Danny Gabbidon and Nicky Maynard will leave the club this summer as they have been released and won’t be offered new deals.
McNaughton joined the club back in 2006 and went on to make 282 appearances for the club prior to the final one against Southampton in our one nil Premier League victory.
Highlights for him will be the 2008 FA Cup semi and final as well as the Play Off Final in 2010 and the 2012 League Cup final, and he of course played his part in our promotion to the Premier League the other year.
Having spent time on loan with Bolton in the first half of the year in our time in the Premiership, he returned to try and play his part in our survival but headed out again this year for a second long loan spell but that was brought to an end at the turn of the year with injury.
Gabbidon had three spells with the club, beginning with a loan spell back in August 2000 and in his time(s) with us he made 221 appearances and most recently the 35 year old spent time as our caretaker manager alongside Scott Young following the departure of Ole Gunnar Solksjaer.
Maynard joined us back in August 2012 but only went on to make 26 appearances as injury hit, and in that time he scored three times. He spent the second half of last year out on loan with Wigan.
The club wish all three well for the future and thank them for their efforts with us.
In Under 21 news in terms of the retained list, Anthony Bell, Jaye Bowen, Gethyn Hill, Danny Johnson, Joe Massaro, Kane Owen, Ben Watkins, Bradley Wickham, Bradley Williams and Josh Yorwerth are also wished the best for their futures as they moved on.
Jazzi Barnum-Bobb, Tyler Roche, David Tutonda and Curtis Watkins have had the additional year options we held on them enacted to cover 2015/16.
Goalkeeper Ben Wilson has been handed a new deal that keeps him with us until the summer of 2017.
Macauley Southam has been offered a new deal but that hasn’t yet been signed from the sounds of things.
At Under 18 level, professional deals have been handed to Robbie Patten, Abdi Noor, Ashley Baker, Dylan Rees, Tom Burridge, Eli Phipps and Jamie Veale.
