Cardiff City have been linked with a move for The New Saints goalkeeper Ged Doherty. The League of Wales stopper has been in fine form recently and played a major part in knocking Cardiff City out of the FAW Premier cup.

Scouts have been monititoring Doherty’s form as the New Saints have excelled once again this term and look odd-on to retain their title.

Doherty has been ever-present in a defence which has only conceded an amazing 12 goals all season (24 games so far). A hugely impressive statistic for which the goalkeeper must take some credit.

Former Arsenal trainee Mark Howard will be released at the end of the season, while Neil Alexander is also out of contract and negotiations have stalled on a new deal.

That leaves only David Forde on the Bluebirds books as an experience ‘keeper and Deherty could provide a good back-up at a budget price.

The Cardiff City scouts have been travelling less of late after the January transfer of Matt Green from local side Newport County.
