Cardiff City manager Dave Jones was absent after the impressive 4-1 win over Colchester United, he had rushed off to be with his young daughter – suffering with tonsilitus. Terry Burton filled in and was understandably satisfied, he told BBC Sport:

‘We asked for a better performance and the players certainly gave it.’

‘Our approach play was better and all that was missing in the first half was the final ball.’

‘After going behind we came back strongly, produced good crosses into the box and got players on them.’

Colchester manager Geraint Williams was less than impressed after another poor showing from his U’s:

‘We scored against the run of play, but once we conceded the equaliser in the second half we panicked and fell apart. Cardiff played the conditions far better than us and fully deserved to win on their second-half performance.’
