Cardiff City manager Dave Jones was delighted to have snatched a point at St Mary’s but was disappointed by his sides’s start to the game which allowed the home side a 2-0 half time lead:

‘I did not think we turned up in the first half, we were lethargic and did not do anything.’

‘I wish we’d started the game the way we finished to be honest.’

‘It took us 45 minutes to wake up. I was a bit angry at half-time and the players dared not come back in at full-time unless they got a point.’

‘Southampton were defending for their lives. We wanted to win it. But after being 2-0 down I suppose I should be happy with the point.’

Saints manager George Burley would have been aghast to see his side squander a 2 goal lead on the back of two defeats but took the result well:

‘We put Cardiff under a lot of pressure but could not see it out.’

‘I would’ve liked to get three points, but there is still all to play for. We are not out of the promotion race.’
