Michael Oakes – 6

Not too much to do and maybe could have got a hand on the goal, showed safe hands under pressure to help his defence.

Kevin McNaughton – 6

Not his best game but was not found wanting. Had little cover from Parry in attacking mode and stuck to his task well enough.

Glenn Loovens – n/a

Didn’t look right from the start and was clearly in discomfort.

Roger Johnson – 7

Under-fire but stood up well and had a good game. Dealt well with a barrage of second half long balls.

Tony Capaldi – 6

Quiet and steady, Capaldi failed to impose himslef but was there when needed and tidied up well.

Paul Parry – 8

Capped a lively performance with a superb goal and is now a difficult man to leave out. Predictable when cutting inside but Burnley didnt seem to know!

Peter Whittingham – 5

A late call up and was not fully prepared. Had a difficult first half and was anonymous for the second as he struggled to find the tempo.

Gavin Rae – 7

Industrious and busy, he enjoyed playing with Ledley and work-rate impressed as usual.

Joe Ledley – 9 M.O.M.

Simply an outstanding performance, he was literally everywhere and scored another goal with a firm header. No doubt over M.O.M as Ledley put in a magnifiscent display.

Robbie Fowler – 6

Tried hard but not his day whilst he nearly collapsed after one 50 yard run. Played his part in the Ledley goal and did disrupt the Clarets defence.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink – 7

Plenty of effort and endeavor and made a nhuisance of himself. Struggled against Carlisle in the air but contributed to the win.

Substitutes:

Darren Purse – 7

On as a 1st half sub, Purse coped admirably after his lay-off. Some meaty challenges and timely interceptions and organised well – welcome back Pursey!

Thompson

Early return from shin-splints but we had finished attacking when he came on.

Ramsey

Turned towards goal under pressure and created a stir before coolly biding his time and finding Johnson with a neat and calm pass – very assured looking but no time to impress.
