Cardiff City lost their third successive home match against Watford last night and will be bitterly disappointed with their defending.

Parry and Hasselbaink caused problems for the Hornets as Cardiff dominated for long periods – lacking the final cutting edge. It was with Watford’s first real attack that they took the lead, a free-kick from deep caused chaos, with Ross Turnbull coming, flapping and colliding with a team-mate. DeMerit got a touch before Darius Henderson poked home.

The goal renewed Watford confidence and they enjoyed their best spell of the match, but Cardiff weathered the mini-storm and came back fighting. It took till the hour mark for Cardiff to score, but it was worth the wait. Hasselbaink gave himself some room with a shimmy before curling a delightful effort into the bottom corener for his first goal in Cardiff colours.

There was time for both sides to win it, with Cardiff looking the more likely. Trevore Sinclair had a great chance saved by the excellent Mart Poom, before Watford scored moments later. A corner was headed away before half the Cardiff defence charged out leaving 4 Watford players marked by Johnson and McNaughton – the ball fell to Henderson who made no mistake.

So Cardiff lose again, it was a decent performance – not too many clear cut chances but Watford are a big strong side and we certainly matched them. Mart Poom was infallible in goal while Gavin Mahon constantly troubled the City attacks.

Two poor peices of defending cost us. A new Keeper and a full-back playing centre-half are not ideal but it was the basics that we failed on. It must be sorted ahead of Saturday’s visit by Preston – a win is crucial.

Whilst JFH pulled us a boujt a bit, Fowler looks off the pace and uninterested. Some of your passing was quality in places and the pace going forward as good but you have to get a striker in that wants to play and not just pick up a cheque!!!!

Sounds valid – we need a pacy striker too, have done for ages but Fowler is looking better each game
