Chairman Mehmet Dalman has revealed that talks have begun with Fraizer Campbell over a new contract at Cardiff.

The 26 year old’s current contract apparently includes a release clause and discussions are now being had with him and his representatives to ensure he remains at the club following our relegation back to the Championship this season.

Speaking to the BBC Dalman said.

‘Fraizer’s done fantastically well for us, not just this season but the previous season. He’s very much loved at the club and we want him to stay.’

Having joined us from Sunderland back in January 2013 for a snip at a reported £650,000, he scored seven goals in twelve matches to help us to promotion to the Premier League and this campaign he scored six times, including goals in games against Manchester City and Manchester United.

With news breaking the other day that we have triggered the release clause in Lewis Grabban’s contract, many believe that’s an indication that Campbell will be moving on, but that remains to be seen, as of course we also have Javi Guerra joining next season as well.

  • Would welcome Campbell staying but if he wants out I’d sooner he got out this season, if we could somehow rework a contract to remove a reported minimal payment we’ll get I’d hope that we can but wouldn’t be that expectant.
